Please look at this idea and leave some constructive ideas about what you think. If the idea sucks, say so and why. Remember everybody will see everybody's comments, so this is like a group discussion.

Preface:
Radio stations want you listen to them all the time. It is the only way they can keep advertising dollars rolling in. What they do not want you to do is channel surf, which many of us do to avoid the advertising. What would be great for the consumer is to give him/her the information all the time of what songs are currently playing on the other radio stations.

Opportunity:
One way of getting this information out very cheaply is by way of Twitter, the micro-blogging site. If you do not know what twitter is, just google it and read a few of the million pages. Users could follow the stations set up by us and would be informed every time a new song has started with song and artist name. How? The same subscriptions that identifies songs on your cell phone can identify a digital audio signal and send out a tweet of that song and artist name. Where would this make money? Well since there are a few million in LA along listening to radio on their way home, we would immediately have a huge following on Twitter and be able to use those links to send out "informational" news, which are actually ads disguised as news.

What do you think?

Closer Look: Technology and Real Estate

Hopefully we will get more comments with this one than what we had on the last one. I am hopeful that these will spur the entrepreneurial spirit up on these.

Preface:
The real estate market may on the ropes, but the reality is that many homebuyers are using the Internet to search for listings on their own. Reasons are traditional, some don't like to be sold to and others don't really trust the realtors ("Oh, you'll really love this house"). The problems most semi serious buyers find is that the homeseeker sites flood them with data. Simple searches find hundreds of houses for sale in my price range but after looking at five listings they all start to look the same.

Opportunity:
So, what's a buyer to do? What if there was something between the two extremes of the hounding realtor and the humanless data flood? What if there was some human interaction on a list of choices, where realtors who go around and look at houses, can advise a client via chat or email or Twitter (!?!) on houses they have just reviewed and thought they may fit a client's profile need. No calls, just shopping and reviews. Users would log on, no obligation. Select certain criteria from a list and then let the listings come to them. They would be assigned a realtor, but the realtor would not call them, only send them a few listings a week, some with a real-time comment like "Just reviewed this property and it looks like it will go fast", "This is a foreclosure and is 20% below market values in this neighborhood". Based on time, the online realtor will start to learn what a client is looking for by giving them data. When the client wants to move, it is in their hand to do so.

Please comment on this, all comments are viewable by everyone. If the idea stinks, say it does (and why). If it has merit, why and how would be it be?

No reason not to comment...

Just to reiterate what I have said before, the beauty of this blog, is that everyone can comment and everyone can see all the other comments. This makes this a true group project for those who follow my blog. When an idea comes up, you will be able to make your first gut feeling comments. These will be seen by all and commented by all. It does not just all come to me.

What's in it for you to comment?

You will see new ideas that have been hashed and re-hashed from a group of successful professionals like yourself. You can take those away and write a business plan or you can find some people who have commented in this group and join with them to go out and do this. Sky is the limited, but you must do the following:

1.) You MUST click the "Follow This Blog" button off to the right side under my picture and

2.) you MUST contribute and make some comments about what looks good or not.

Closer Look: Facebook Applications

True to our mantra for this blog: Online efforts that make money. Many fancy things out there, but this blog will do its best to focus on one very important aspect: Where is the money.

In light of the 5 year anniversary of Facebook, it only makes sense for us to analyze where the money is here after their meteoric growth to a mere 150 million users.

Preface:
One "follow the money" story starts with Suleman Ali, a bored programmer at Microsoft who decided to quit his job in Redmond and do his own thing in CA's silicon valley. Just when he was getting started on creating a product, Facebook comes out with their application development platform in May 2007. This opportunity inspired him to create an app called Superlatives, where users can rate their friends according to objective (being facetious) criteria like "best looking" or "worst friend". His subsequent company called Esgut created many other applications and grew their user base to 9 million and generated ad revenue. 9 months after the first application, Ali has sold to CA-based SGN for "several millions" - exact amount cannot be disclosed.

Opportunity:
There is a lot of debate and noise out on the web that Facebook is growing out of its childish shell to become a business based network, where professionals can network, find jobs and share business leads. The bulk of the Facebook applications are interesting for the target audience of teenagers. Very few would target real business users who are looking to network. What are those applications that great sites like LinkedIn would love to have, but cannot because their application platform is not open or developer friendly as Facebook's?

Whaddayathink?
Please comment. Is this a good idea or bad idea? Is there money in developing professional apps for professional Facebook users?

Focus: Making Money

There is a lot said about new trends on the Internet, Facebook just turned 5 years old (an old man in Social Network terms) here an interview with the 22 year old founder Mark Zuckerberg. But the thing that this blog will be filled with is purely ideas that make money. Mark eludes that question in his interview, but since his overhead is extremely low and all he wants to do is grow, there is a pot of gold waiting for this lad on the other side of the rainbow.

There there is lolcats.com. Simple site with cat pictures that everyone can add silly captions to and laugh about. Simple teenage fun? Maybe is started that way, but now they are a private 10 person company located in some very expensive office space in downtown Seattle. This is NOT rocket science. SEO (search engine optimization) is an industry where you can make your webpage popular and findable and therefore gain a following that advertisers would like to embrace. Clearly, the lolcats group knew what was fun, but knew how to get their content out.

This blog will focus all of its effort on finding examples of people making money on the Internet. I would love to see comments back from all on other examples, so that one of these can help us all get past this economic crisis the smart way.

There is a patent with my name on it...

This does not seem like big news because it is not, but just to reassure those reading that there was once a pretty penny in my brain, I pass on the following link from the US Patent Office, which holds as of February 14, 2006 Patent #7,000,243B1 wherein I am listed as a co-inventor.

http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PALL&p=1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsrchnum.htm&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=7000243.PN.&OS=PN/7000243&RS=PN/7000243

Unfortunately in today's time, this patent and $1.48 will get me a coffee at Starbucks.

Government Grants: There's money in them there grapes...

Just found a great website that explains alot about government grants. The first is only a no-duh: email is ineffective as a marketing communications tool. Spam filters and spam laws are keeping marketeers from getting through using email. What is news is that one social media, which has been spoken about a lot is actually showing some real value: blogging.

Blogging is something we all know about, but the reality is that we do have more to say that we think is valuable because we learn things every day from our daily life on the Internet. If we could only learn to focus that information away from what was on the menu for lunch and on to a actual, industry oriented topic, we could get a group following that blog.

Still unconvinced that this is something you would like to spend time with? Hire a "ghost blogger", who will take an article you found interesting once a week and condense it down to your information. We at Legacy work with many ghost bloggers and can set you up with someone who can write for your industry specifically.

Your gain? When someone types in "Insurance costs" in Google, it could be that your name and your blog will rise to the top and you will be labled as an expert in people's mind. When this happens, people will call you, instead you having to call people.

New polling information shows this all to be true from the Online Media Daily. If it wasn't MySpace that the kids started to play with, then it was FaceBook that came out of the college crowd. Then we suddenly heard that LinkedIn swelled to 20 million users, which now has grown to over 35 million in just the last few months. Even if you did get some understanding about these technologies, up comes Twitter. You may have even tried to use Twitter, but cannot understand why. At the same time you get invitations to Naymz, Ning, and a couple of thousand other social media sites.

It all sounds like fun and games until you hear of somebody landing new 7-figure deal on Facebook or better finding a new 7 figure job on LinkedIn. You know there has to be something to there, but you are not sure what it is, what you should do and what you should even expect to get out of it.

If this sounds like you, this may be the right blog for you to listen to, because I know where you are coming from. I have taught grown adults how to use these sites and have taken over the responsibility to bring warm leads to successful businessmen through their presence that I manage on these social media. Stick to this blog and you will hear more.

New LinkedIn Seminars Offered...

We at Legacy Careers have decided to offer a new series of LinkedIn seminars for everyone who wants to accelerate their ability to use this new and upcoming social network. We are especially targeting those who are re-joining the job search crowd and may have been out for many years. This new group may not be up-to-date on the newest level of networking that is available and may need a few quick hints on how to become a power user at LinkedIn.

It's really not that hard, but you need someone to show you the tricks and hints that are not immediately visible to those starting out.

The other thing our seminar will offer is a collection of text blocks that you can use and customize when creating your profile to make it easier to use. This will ensure that you can get up and running as quickly as possible.

The seminar is designed for those who want to get up and running as quickly as possible and use their network to promote their business and sell services. But just like any job seeker knows, that is exactly what you are doing: selling yourself and the network is a conduit to get to the right audience.

In order to get as many people up and running, we have created special pricing to those who can tell us that they are unemployed and have decided to take $100 off of the list price for the seminar. Please register yourself by clicking on the link below and put the words "unemployed" in the comments section. That way, when we contact you for the next seminar in your area, we will know that you will receive this special discount.

Here is the link:
http://www.legacycareersinc.com/1/401/contact_us_2.asp

What we do….

Legacy Careers Incorporated is a dedicated team of recruiters focused on matching the career aspirations of professionals in the biopharmaceutical industry with the opportunities that will help build a legacy for their professional and personal lives.

What we do differently…

Our unique “agent” approach means that we will work with you to tailor our research for opportunities in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries that fit your specific career dreams – before we even know about those opportunities.

What we do differently to get lasting results…

We are part of an integrated group of over 500 professional recruiting companies, giving our clients who need the best professionals the assurance that positions can be filled efficiently in the shortest amount of time.

Consultants Pool…

For those situations when a consultant best fits the immediate need, we have a pool of professionals from Regulatory Affairs Consultants and Medical Writers to Clinical Operations Directors who work on-site or remotely.
